The UCLA Information Studies Diversity Council would like to invite all interested MLIS
students, faculty, and information professionals to engage in a conversation around the
critical role of diversity in our profession and how students can best prepare to serve
different communities and thrive in a field where they may be underrepresented. We
encourage both students and information professionals to join us for an opportunity to
meet each other, ask questions and share advice, and to share their experiences of
being a librarian/archivist of color; serving underrepresented or marginalized
communities; and tackling different challenges and taking different paths. Our hope is
that this conversation will bring together both students and professionals to engage in
this critical conversation on diversity, to further support those underrepresented in the
information profession, and to encourage others to become involved in the Council as
we determine future agenda/topics for future events. Please join us for this lively
conversation with fantastic panelists! Lunch will be provided.
