Debra Duardo
Current Education Student, Educational Leadership Program
Debra Duardo is the Director of Pupil Services for the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest school district in the nation. She is responsible for student attendance and enrollment, dropout prevention and recovery, and programs designed to support students with special circumstances that impede school success such as teen parenting, homelessness, foster care, and students unable to attend school because they need to work. For Debra’s dissertation she will focus on the high rate of chronic absence of kindergartners in the LAUSD and evaluate an existing attendance improvement program implemented last school year. She hopes to identify key strategies and best practices to support good attendance and expand the pilot program throughout the district to support more schools and improve attendance district wide.
