Study of Poverty’s Effect on Children Published in National Online Journal

Research examines cases of low-income families raising children in high-cost–of-living areas and its impact on the children’s academic success.

Oct. 1, 2012 - Alumna Nina C. Chien (’09, Ph.D., Psychological Studies in Education) and her doctoral advisor, Professor Rashmita Mistry, have co-authored a study that has been published in the online version of the journal Child Development. The study, entitled “The Effects of Geographical Variations in Cost of Living on Child Well-Being,” is based on Chien’s dissertation and examines cases of low-income families raising children in high-cost–of-living areas and the ensuing impact on the children’s academic success.
