GSE&IS Receives Linda Richardson Rice Endowed Fellowship
The UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies has announced a new fellowship for a student majoring in Education, the Linda Richardson Rice Endowed Fellowship. This fellowship was established thanks to a generous bequest from UCLA alumna Linda Richardson Rice. The Linda Richardson Rice Endowed Fellowship will be awarded for the first time in 2012-2013 to a graduate student in the UCLA Teacher Education Program who has an interest in computer science and learning, as a way to pay tribute to Linda Richardson Rice, her life, and her career.
Linda Richardson Rice was a devoted teacher and educator for 50+ years. After teaching Business Education on the high school level for 11 years, she joined Saddleback College in 1968 as one of the founding faculty members, teaching Secretarial Science. She became instrumental in Computer Information Management – both originating and teaching many computer courses. She authored/published textbooks, lab manuals, and study guides. When she retired in 1995 after 27 years at Saddleback College, she received The Computer Information Management Recognition Award for Distinguished Contributions. She continued teaching Business Science computer courses part-time at Saddleback for the next 7 years. From January 2006 to May 2010, Rice taught courses for Saddleback’s Emeritus Institute.
Rice received her B.S. from UCLA and her M.A. from Los Angeles State College. In appreciation for the scholarships she received while in college, Rice provided for Endowed Scholarships to both UCLA and Saddleback College in her name so that future students will have an opportunity for a college education.
The UCLA Graduate School of Education & Information Studies is grateful to have been remembered in Ms. Rice’s estate. The Linda Richardson Rice Fellowship will leave a lasting legacy for the future.
