Carola Suárez-Orozco: Immigration Expert to Present Keynote at World Affairs Conference
September 11, 2012 - Carola Suárez-Orozco, professor of psychological studies in education at the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies, will present the keynote address at the 2012 James E. Smith Midwest Conference on World Affairs, which will be held Sept. 25-26 at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Immigration, labor, human trafficking, and technology and outsourcing, are among the topics to be discussed at the conference, which is titled, “Immigration and the Globalization of Labor,” by participants from Brazil, Pakistan, Chile, Mexico, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Germany and many other countries.
A prolific writer, Suárez-Orozco has examined numerous areas related to immigration including cultural psychology, immigrant families and youth, academic trajectories of engagement and performance among immigrant adolescents, and the role of the “social mirror” in identity formation.
