Information about Commencement for students, families, and guests.

TICKETS ARE NOT REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT

Students who plan to participate in commencement and/or would like their name printed in the commencement program must have submitted a Declaration of Commencement form to the Office of Student Services by May 10, 2013.

Who is eligible to participate?

If you graduated in Fall '12 or Winter '13 you are eligible.

OR

If you are a candidate for a degree, you are eligible only if you fit the following criteria for your division:

  • ESM: Spring or Summer 2013 graduate
  • M.A./ M.Ed.: have successfully completed coursework and have advisor verification of successful exam/portfolio/thesis completion prior to Friday, June 14, 2013.
  • Ph.D./ Ed.D.*: have your dissertation chair sign the Declaration of Commencement form.  NOTE: ELP students must successfully complete her/his FINAL ORAL examination on or before June 14, 2013.


How do I let GSE&IS know that I am graduating?
You must have submitted the Declaration of Commencement Form to the Office of Student Services (1009 Moore Hall)  NO LATER than May 10, 2013.  

Can the Privacy Release status prevent my name from appearing in the commencement program?
In the case that you would NOT wish for your name to be printed in the GSE&IS Commencement program, you had to notify the Office of Student Services by May 10, 2013.  Otherwise, your name will be printed exactly how you submit it on your Declaration form.

How will my name appear in the program?
Your name will be printed EXACTLY as you print it on the Declaration of Commencement form.

Do guests need tickets to attend?
Tickets are NOT required for this event.  Open seating is available on a first come, first serve basis.  Guests are encouraged to arrive early to get the seating of their choice. 

Student Speakers
One student speaker will be selected from each department through a peer selection process.  Student speakers are encouraged to address the UCLA Commencement theme, but this is just one of the many options.  Student speaker guests will receive priority seating.  Selection deadline was set for May 17, 2013.

Student Marshals
One student marshal is selected from each department to lead candidates into the commencement ceremony.  Student marshals are nominated by department faculty not only for their academic excellence but also for their service to the GSE&IS community.

What color tassel and hood will I be wearing?
GSE&IS degree candidates wear the following:

Please remember that each candidate will be photographed and will have the opportunity to purchase prints.  Proofs will be e-mailed to you within 48 hours of the ceremony.

Diplomas
Diplomas will be available approximately four to six months after graduation.  Students will be notified by the Registrar's Office about diploma pick-up. Frequently Asked Questions about diplomas can be found on the Registrar's Office Diploma website. The Diploma Hotline is: 310-825-8883.

Parking
Wilson Plaza can be found closest to Lots 4 & 5.  The parking fee per vehicle is $11.  Pre-paid parking passes are available through Parking Services (Suite 100, 555 Westwood Plaza) and the Campus Ticketing Office (CTO) starting May 13, 2013. UCLA Campus Maps are available to view and download.

Disability Requests
If you are a student with a disability, or if you are inviting a guest who needs special assistance to attend Commencement, please call the Office of Students with Disabilities (OSD) at 310-825-1501, 310-206-6083 (TDD), or stop by A-255 Murphy.

Does Graduate Division still hold the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony?
Yes.  This year's ceremony will be held in Royce Hall on Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 3pm.  It is our campus' only university-wide degree conferral ceremony and the only one of its kind in the UC system.  Anyone wishing to participate must have filed his/her dissertation by Monday, June 3, 2013.
