Support GSE&IS - Where to Give- UCLA Community School

Friends of UCLA Community School

Friends of UCLA Community School is a giving circle of caring individuals who wish to invest with others and with UCLA to provide new hope and equal opportunities for the children and families of Central Los Angeles – while helping to establish UCLA Community School as a demonstration model of public education excellence.

UCLA Community School is a UCLA-supported K-12 school that opened in September 2009 in one of the most densely-populated and high-poverty neighborhoods in California. During the first year, the school served children in Kindergarten through Grade 5. In fall 2010 the school began to serve neighborhood children from Kindergarten through High School graduation.

Located on the site of the former Ambassador Hotel – at the new Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools complex – UCLA Community School is a Pilot School, receiving per-pupil funding from LAUSD, but with autonomy over the design of curriculum, budgeting, and hiring of teachers. The Pilot School model is making it possible for UCLA Education faculty to contribute expert knowledge of best practices to develop, test, and demonstrate innovative curriculum and approaches.

Friends of UCLA Community School is a new opportunity for all of us to invest together in this demonstration site of quality teaching and learning. UCLA Community School is redefining the role of a major research university in urban education.  UCLA students, faculty, and alumni from across the campus -- UCLA Live, UCLA Music, UCLA Arts, UCLA Engineering, UCLA Library, UCLA Athletics, UCLA Public Health, and many more -- are or will be working together with Friends of UCLA Community School to strengthen this school as a UCLA community-wide project. Together, we can improve the lives of the children and families in this Central Los Angeles neighborhood.

Please consider helping us in this effort with a tax-deductible gift of any size to: UCLA Foundation, Friends of UCLA Community School Fund. Funds from the Friends of UCLA Community School will be used to support things such as:

  • Art, Music and Dance Enrichment
  • Professional Development for Teachers
  • School Athletic Activities
  • The Internship Program for High School Students
  • A “Bridge to UCLA” Cultural Program
