Adopt a Chair in the IS Lab
To paraphrase Albert Einstein, “A table, a chair … what else does a man (or woman) need to be happy?”
Since 1991, the tables and chairs in UCLA’s Department of Information Studies lab have provided space and comfort for hundreds of students, faculty, and staff. An intellectual laboratory in the truest sense, it has a rich archive of print, digital, and audio-visual resources to inform and enhance academic research. Ask anyone who has used the space over the past 20 years, and they will likely tell you that the lab is also a center of social activity on campus, as students often gather for group projects and collaborative learning.
Today, the tables in the IS lab continue to stand strong and proud, supporting the laptops, notepads, and books of our students. But the chairs, the tired, 20 year-old chairs sink to the floor in defeat, no longer able to lift sitters backsides or spirits. Rather than joy, their weathered pads and broken legs bring consternation, aggravation, even ire.

Old, Tired Chairs New, Joyful Chair!
There is hope, but only with your help. The IS lab needs you to step up and help our students sit down in comfort. So lend a hand and give a seat to the librarians and information professionals of the future -
Adopt a Chair for the Information Studies Lab!
Make a donation of $200 or more to the Information Studies Department, and a chair will be purchased for the IS lab and named in your honor. A small plaque (2” x 4”) will be affixed to the back of your chair and will be engraved with your name and class year. You can donate as an individual, couple, or as a group (with your closest classmates, for example). All donors will be listed, and the next time you visit the IS lab, your chair will be waiting for you!
Please visit our online giving form to make your gift today.
